From eating junk food to staying up late- people of this era are caught up in an unhealthy routine. However, it's never too late. Adopting a healthy lifestyle not only prevents you from certain diseases but also boosts your self-esteem and overall well-being.

You don't have to change your habits all of a sudden. Start small! Listen to your body and stick to it! These small changes will gear up your journey towards a healthy lifestyle.

So, in this article, I'm gonna share with you how to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Let's dive in :

 1) Eat Healthy And Nutritious Food

Your diet plays an important role in your overall health. Include a variety of foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and whole grains in your diet. Sound's difficult, huh? Don't fret. Take baby steps and start changing your unhealthy eating habits.

Try to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

Cut down saturated and trans fats from your diet. Replace them with unsaturated fats which are found in avocado, fish, olive oil, nuts, and soybean.

According to the CDC, 33 percent of American adults eat the recommended quantity of vegetables per day while only 21 percent eat recommended fruits a day.

Healthy eating reduces the risk of non-communicable diseases like stroke, diabetes, and heart diseases.

Wait! What? Do you crave fast and junk food? A cheat day once in a while is ok! If you stop suddenly and start a strict routine, it can backfire.

2) Engage In Physical Activity

Ain't we all know how beneficial exercise is? We are just too lazy to hit the gym. But the good news is there are plenty of ways to keep you moving, not just going to the gym.

Go for a walk, ride a bicycle or do some house chores but the key is "keep moving".

You can exercise at home too. Research shows that having a moderate-intensity exercise for 20-30 minutes a day 4-5 days a week has enormous health benefits. Not only this it prevents cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and hypertension (high blood pressure).

3) Enough Sleep

Did someone say sleep comes under a healthy lifestyle? Shhh! You read it right 😃

Yes, sleeping timely and enough has colossal benefits on your immune system. An average adult should sleep 7-8 hours at night.

If you don't sleep well and remain awake till late then you will end up munching junk food. This will in turn lead to obesity.

4) Stop Smoking

If you smoke you need to understand that you are risking not only yours but the health of your loved ones too.

The irony is cigarette packs display the hazardous effects of smoking but still, people tend to smoke.

Smoking affects your lungs badly resulting in lung cancer. It's all your willpower that can help you leave behind this harmful habit.

If you don't smoke, good job!! Stay away from it 😊

5) Surround Yourself With Positive People

Do you feel low, or depressed most of the times? Are you surrounded by negative people and engulfed in negative thoughts? If so, you must change your surroundings and your mind.

Positivity is a key to healthy living. A single negative thought about yourself is enough to break you.

A positive environment is necessary for your health and growth.

The other side is if you are stressed, you might indulge in overeating. To avoid this, BE POSITIVE in all situations.

The Bottom Line:

The lifestyle you choose today will impact years to come. Do it wisely!

Don't be hard on yourself from the beginning. Take baby steps and make sure to progress towards a healthy routine. Health comes first. Healthy food, exercise, proper sleep, smoke-free, and a positive environment are some steps to a healthy lifestyle.

With all these steps make sure to have regular check-ups, stay hydrated, and control blood pressure which is also essential for healthy living. The key is to stay consistent and in turn, get lifelong health benefits.
